National Gay Flag Football League’s   FIRST WOMEN'S+ TOURNAMENT IN PHILLY - YEAR 2

In 2022, with the help of the national league, Women’s+ league and tournament play (inclusive of trans femme/masc and nonbinary identities) saw incredible growth and development. There are other tournaments throughout the year, but none focus exclusively on the needs, style of play, and community of the Women’s + players. Our tournament board and the Greater Philadelphia Flag Football League (GPFFL) sought to change that by creating The Philly Special, the first NGFFL sponsored Women’s+ regional tournament in the Northeast. The GPFFL and this tounrmanet is supported by the NGFFL and priorities set by the national women’s + director to develop and grow women’s + flag football throughout the country. . TOURNAMENT PLAY

Aptly named “The Philly Special,” after a notorious football play popularized by the Eagles (Go Birds!), the tournament takes place in the heart of Philadelphia on the Saturday and Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. The tournament is structured with pool play on Day 1 and semis/finals on Day 2. In our second year we will be hosting 8-12 teams and approximately 200 athletes!

PARTIES

Throughout the tournament weekend, we host parties and social events to give participants an opportunity to mingle and explore Philadelphia. We work with a local Philadelphia bars, clubs, and other sponsors to create an amazing tournament and celebrate queer sports. We love to foster a healthy mix of competition and fun to draw teams from all over the country to Philadelphia meaning Philadelphia will be home to many LGBTQ athletes looking to celebrate queer sports.
